About Us

Hello! My name is Jacqui, and this is me in my role as Head Gardener at Abkhazi Garden (1964 Fairfield Rd, Victoria), a not-for-profit, public garden rescued from development through community action and owned by The Land Conservancy of BC. I have been working in this position for the last five years alongside a wonderful crew of volunteers who help me two mornings a week to keep the place looking gorgeous. I absolutely adore this role as it gives me the opportunity to work in one of the most beautiful and relaxing gardens in Victoria. If you haven't visited this little gem of a garden, you should make a point of coming down, let it relax your mind and soul, and maybe book yourself in for a wonderful cream tea!

I have had a love of gardening from a young age growing up in rural England. My mother virtually lived all daylight hours in her 1.5-acre garden and greenhouse, which later inspired me to pursue a career in this field. Following horticultural and design training, I started my own small garden maintenance business and worked part-time for several years at Russell Nursery (Wain Rd, North Saanich) in their shrubs and trees department. I assisted the Nursery promote their garden consultation service and found that I really love helping people see the possibilities for their own outdoor spaces, be they large or small, ornamental or productive in nature. This led me to steer my own business more towards design and install projects, which I do to this day in tandem with my Head Gardener role at Abkhazi Garden.
